Sandra Zuzarte was invited by the musical project Ghent (Fernando Fadigas and Nuno Moita) to embark in the creation of an audio-visual work for their new album. Emerging in pre-pandemic anthropocene concerns and diving in their electronic sound she created the visual ambient that named the album Fumo (Smoke). From the universe of post-industrial computer music these are slow-moving images in a slow- media project. Summoning ghosts of the past revealed in layers of archive images, the spectator is conducted from visions of industrial England to the city streets of Ruhr (the German largest industrial region in Europe) through factories, coal mines, eclipses and the conjuring of tempests. Creating a hypnotic audio-visual digital experiment that confronts us with the fading spectres of our industrial memory persisting in the smoke of our intoxicating present.
