Kima: Colour Van Gogh © Analema Group 2020

Kima: Colour Van Gogh is a  video work that transform colour data from Van Gogh’s Wheatfield, Cypresses into 360 degree light and sound experiences.

These original pieces are based on Analema Group’s artist residency at National Gallery X.

National Gallery X is an ‘infinite studio’ opened in September 2019, exploring how emerging technologies can help create tomorrow’s museum experience today. Prior to a physical exhibition of Analema Group’s KIMA: Colour, National Gallery X is now launching KIMA: Colour in 360 a virtual exploration of some of the National Gallery’s great masterpieces online.

KIMA: Colour in 360

Partnering with The National Gallery, Google Arts and Culture and King’s College London, the arts collective Analema Group presents three new art pieces that reimagine classic artwork from the National Gallery’s world-famous collection as 360 online experiences.

Three video works transform colour data from Van Eyck’s The Arnolfini Portrait, Monet’s Water Lilies, Setting Sun and Van Gogh’s Wheatfield, Cypresses into 360 degree light and sound experiences available on YouTube and the National Gallery website.

KIMA: Colour in 360 combines a binaural sound experience with a spatial 360 video experience, to be explored interactively by the audience.

Audiences are able to feel, hear and sense classic paintings and rediscover colour online. As a 360 video experience, audiences can navigate a selection of paintings, augmenting their understanding of colour palette in these classic masterpieces.

Inspired by Jan Van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Monet’s ‘Water Lilies, Setting Sun’ and Van Gogh’s ‘Wheatfield with Cypresses’, you are invited to explore colour palettes and composition as a multi-dimensional 3D sound and video experience using youtube’s app, on youtube or using Google cardboard VR.

Select an artwork of your liking, open it in Youtube’s App on your phone, put headphones on and navigate through the pieces as immersive surround experiences.
