António Cerveira Pinto
The New Art Fest and Second City
The New Art Fest’s curator and Second City’ director.
Second City is the second historical stage of evolution of modern cities brought to us by the Second Industrial Revolution (1870-1940). After having physically networked the world through mechanical transportation, wired telecommunications, clean, functional and densified (vertical) housing, new food conservation technologies, sanitation, pain killers and health drugs, representative democracy and women’s liberation, as well as education and welfare state solidarity, we are now entering a new stage of technological evolution. This frenzy trend has many names: 4th Industrial Revolution, Digital Society 4.0., knowledge revolution (and the great cognitive divide…), cultural dematerialization, ubiquity society, mixed reality, and so far. Following several discussions since the beginning of 2017, it is time to take this platform into the public realm, so that we can expand the dialogue and attract more thinkers, more artists, more technologists, and a few business angels!
