Since its inception, the Oficinas do Convento operating under the Arts, with a clear concern to rethink the conditions of the place, to convert them into more cultural value to the city habitant. The approach to cultural agents and local artists allowed the Oficinas do Convento expand its scope of action. The action of these is structured around the founding objectives of the Association: Publicity, Promotion, Production and Training in technologies related to contemporary art. At the same time, issues related to cultural and architectural heritage are reflected and considered from discussions related to contemporary artistic creation.
The Association’s programs are of public interest and have an impact on city life, as they contribute to the inhabitant of the relationship with the urban space, the surrounding landscape and the traditional architecture, rescuing knowledge. They represent a programmatic supply to the city and represent to the Association, an asset for its support to the activities.
The implementation of cooperative activities and exchanges in various technical-scientific, artistic, social and cultural rights, in peripheral countries to the European Community – particularly in Cape Verde – enabled the Association to establish itself as Non Governmental Organization for Development.
